Dr. Larry Brilliant studied actuarial science at the University of Michigan, where he received a master’s degree in health planning and economic development, became board-certified in preventive medicine and a professor of epidemiology and health planning.

From 1973 to 1980, he was a WHO medical officer in India and a key member of the successful smallpox eradication campaign. He also worked for WHO on polio, blindness, and health planning.

In 1985, he developed a passion for technology for public good. He co-founded The Well, an early social network. He was the CEO of two public companies, Network Technologies and Softnet, and several venture-backed startups. In 2005 he was appointed the first head of Google.org and VP of Google. He became CEO of Skoll Global Threats Fund working on pandemics, climate and other threats.

He co-founded the Seva Foundation which has treated over 60 million people for blinding eye conditions in more than two dozen countries. He also served on the boards of Salesforce.org, Skoll, and Google Foundations. In 2010 he was appointed Chair of the White House National Biosurveillance Advisory Subcommittee (NBAS).

He was a CNN Medical Analyst, wrote for Foreign Affairs and The Wall Street Journal, and advised WHO and several governments and foundations as CEO of Pandefense Advisory during the height of Covid.

He is now CEO of Evity Technologies, a start up at the intersection of epidemiology, healthspan, and AI. Its mission is to combine the best medical science and technology to create products that increase years of healthy longevity.

His awards include the TED Prize, TIME 100, Public Health Hero, UN Global Leadership award, and several honorary doctorates.
