Ryan Kerstein, MBBS, FRCS (Plast), MBA, is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon specializing in skin cancer at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT), where he also serves as Associate Medical Director for Research & Innovation. With a career spanning surgery, healthcare innovation, medtech entrepreneurship, and strategic consulting, he is dedicated to advancing medical practice through technology, collaboration, and leadership.

Ryan trained at top institutions in London, Oxford, and Newcastle, gaining extensive experience in complex surgical care. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to a textbook chapter on surgical techniques and clinical innovation. As the leader of Buckinghamshire Research and Innovation (BRAIn) at BHT, he fosters partnerships across academia, industry, and the NHS to drive research, population health initiatives, and service innovation. Under his leadership, BHT has received national recognition for its pioneering work.

He also serves as Editor for the Royal College of Surgeons (England) Bulletin Journal, using the platform to promote workforce well-being and critically evaluate emerging technologies such as AI, robotics, and digital surgery. Additionally, he leads the Royal College of Surgeons I-Hub, supporting health innovation through events, workshops, and mentorship programs.

While in medical school, Ryan co-founded ASep Healthcare Ltd, developing and commercializing Tournistrip, a single-use tourniquet that has sold over 75 million units worldwide. He continues to support medtech startups, advising on healthcare innovation and product development.

Ryan previously worked as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he focused on strategy, health technology, and big data projects. His experience in innovation strategy, digital transformation, and change management informs his leadership in healthcare today.

A sought-after speaker, Ryan regularly contributes to national and international panels, lectures, and conferences on health innovation. He is a Senior Tutor at the University of Oxford and the University of Buckingham, mentoring the next generation of healthcare leaders and innovators.
